Grotesque 03:08
GROTESQUE Lies You've got the blood on your hands And got no right to bleed Your innocence makes me laugh I don't have what you need You search for the solution I know you'll never find Your faith has left you With an imitation of Christ Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator The spirit takes hold of your body And you cry out Thrown into convulsions You're foaming at the mouth Searching for something sacred You look but all you find Is just an imitation Your God has left behind Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator Transcending the temporal realm Thou shalt not bear witness To those who call themselves poets Or worship false idols Never worship false idols Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator Grotesque, the lowest, Common denominator What else could she do To open their eyes The blind shall see The dead shall hear The dead shall rise Rise

"100 Greatest Frontmen Of All Time! - While recent albums have seen the B-ster exploring new, softer texture, the key to her success remains being Little Miss Scareall, yelling until her tonsils ping out through the air. Like all great frontpersons, Tairrie is unafraid to speak her mind in interviews while journalists gleefully count the motherfuckers!"

- Jason Arnopp | Kerrang!

"I love it when I forget I put something in the changer, then it comes on and it's like...who the HELL is ripping my head off? Then the fog clears. This is what My Ruin sound like when everything's finally come together. On their just released EP 'The Shape of Things To Come' Mick Murphy slaps down classic metal guitar riffs with a tone like burning meat, right in the pocket with Meghan Mattox's Richter-wave bass and the beat slaughter of Yael, The pull together like one creature, while hurtling above the mix is Tairrie B, whose excoriating rasp cuts to the max thanks to clean & hard production by Murphy, Todd Osenbaugh and Nick Raskulinecz. New full-length coming. Tour imminent, Live, they've always killed. The don't look ruined to me."

- Greg Burk | LA Weekly
-------------------------------------------
"Tairrie B's latest effort is quality stuff. From the unrelenting rallies against conformity ('Made To Measure') to the dark and twisted ('Unmanageable') and the utterly disturbing in a cover of the Plasmatics ( 'Sex Junkie'), this here's a woman on a mission and who are we to argue?"

- Victoria Durham | Rock Sound
-------------------------------------------
"Tairrie B and co return with a taster before their upcoming full-length album 'The Horror Of Beauty' is released in October. Mixing the catchy riffs and heaviness fans have come to expect from the band, these tracks also see a growing maturity in song writing. Angry and defiant, Tairrie B fuses swamp heavy metal sounds with her signature throat destroying screams. Single 'Made To Measure' is a catchy, break-neck, guitar driven slab of old school metal, which will not leave fans disappointed. If this is the shape of things to come, then I can't wait for 'The Horror Of Beauty'.

- Caireen Escott | Dripfed U.K.
-------------------------------------------
"My Ruin have been the subject of much talk over the last few years and they have just made their Century Media Records debut as a pure rock and roll band, Down and dirty, Sunset Strip style. The focal point of thids EP is the song 'Made To Measure' which is an amazing riff heavy, kick your teeth in because we feel like doing it, rock song. Tairrie B may just be the new Axl Rose! The EP also contains some other goodies like 'Grotesque' and 'Unmanageable'. There is also a super cool cover of the Plasmatics immortal 'Sex Junkie' and a killer noir style video introducing the band to the world. If this is the shape of things to come then we will surely find My Ruin at the top of the pile with their upcoming full length 'The Horror Of Beauty'.

- Mark Fisher | 1340 Magazine
-------------------------------------------
" While this EP basically serves as a preview for the album 'the Horror Of Beauty' out later this month, 'The Shape Of Things To Come' has plenty to offer on it's own. The accept-me-as-I-am rock 'n' roll anthem 'Made To Measure' - along with the promotional noirish mini-movie included on the disc, lay the groundwork for the upcoming album as an image-conscious rant that mixes modern metal with old-school rock stylings. 'Grotesque' is equally fierce while being somewhat sludgier as frontwoman Tairrie B - who screams as if she gargles with drain cleaner - spits out her venom filled fury. Miss B reveals a more seductive and sultry side on 'Unmanageable' before the band launches into more heavy dirges of smoldering metal mire. The EP also includes an appropriately in your face cover of the Plasmatics 'Sex Junkie'!

- Prick Magazine
-------------------------------------------
"My Ruin is full-on-in-your-face-intensity. Mick Murphy is the black haired master of the rock and metal guitar riff. Yael is the petite beauty who bashes the cymbals & skins like she's channeling the spirit of John Bonham. Meghan Mattox is the pierced tomboy with the bass sluing low to the ground. Tairrie B is the voice, frontwoman and focal point for My Ruin. Friendly and smiling in person but growling and screaming with a fierceness that borders on deadly.
If vocal chords could kill...... They're recent sold-out show at The Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood was the record release party and a celebration of My Ruin's new beginning as they finally signed to a domestic label (Century Media Records) that might have a clue as to what Tairrie and company are trying to achieve. 'The Shape Of Things To Come' is a precursor to the band's full-length CD 'The Horror Of Beauty' to come before the end of 2003.
Contained is a fan favorite 'Made To Measure', a call to all the women & men alike, 'Unmanageable' is a part spoken-word psychodrama and included on the CD is a 13 minute film noir style movie Directed by Tairrie B that cuts between live footage and interviews with the band."

- Bret Miller | Highwire Daze
-------------------------------------------
"There's much weight to the aggression and choler in the My Ruin camp. The 'female rock' angle has been overplayed and scrutinized to death in the music press to the point of nausea. Frontwoman Tairrie B has bore the brunt of the criticism and flack for what the group do and for what her philosophies
and ideals truly mean. With the power of the media able to extend its imperial arm into the marketing of imagery that depicts young women such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera as ideal role models for adolescents, it's not surprising that Tairrie has ripped the idea to shreds on the bands pre-emtive EP 'The Shape Of Things To Come'. With the new record 'The Horror Of Beauty' peeking around the corner, TSOTTC preludes the collection with it's own sense of individuality and purpose. In their own country My Ruin's talents are often under appreciated. Here however, the U.K. exists as a supportive vehicle for the band and they relish the opportunity to gently warm the expectations afforded to their upcoming full-length album with a brace of brand new songs. The best of the lot is the robust 'Made To Measure' possible; their most realised effort to date; It's power supplied by bursts of furious rock 'n' roll, and topped by Tairrie's muscular shriek. The tirade against the objectification of women in the media hits with a knockout punch.
'Grotesque' holds things together with a pungency all its own. 'Unmanageable' lines up in queue as second best with it's malevolent brooding then burning down the walls of distortion that charge in for the chorus. The cover of the Plasmatics 'Sex Junkie' is an enthusiastic and fitting tribute to the late Wendy O, who herself held some of the energy and spirit that My Ruin convey with such powerful results. And that's what it's all about: the power, the glory and the respect. My Ruin have the ability to change opinions and influence minds with their next release, and 'The Shape Of Things To Come' portrays their aptitude and audible chemistry with aplomb.
The future looks brighter for them, but no less tempestuous."

"I think a fair amount of people were rather surprised when Century Media Records announced the signing of My Ruin. When you think of it though, it all makes perfect sense. As frontwoman, Tairrie B stands up proudly alongside the likes of Angela Gossow and Sabina Classen but you won't find any poppy gothic sensibilities like you will with Lacuna Coil. This lady is full of pure unadulterated anger. She has reinvented herself from Manhole to Tura Satana to My Ruin. I guess 'The Shape Of Things To Come' is a very apt title. This is a career path that I've had an affection for right back to the hip hop days before she mixed it with metal. I am more than happy to reacquaint myself with her unloving arms. 'made To Measure' is the opening track and boy is it a strong one. The chunky pounding bass of this instantly reminds me of The Rollins Band and Black Flag. My Ruin are intent on 'Doing It!' With Tairrie growling and punctuating things with raspy screams, I am also thinking along the like of Patti Smith 'Rock N Roll N*****! Mick Murphy gets in on the act with some nice blues riffing and there you have it, instant trash thrash. Somebody please play this for the Murderdolls. Fun though they are, it might help them write a good song. 'Grotesque' is pointed and brutally honest but the sultry spoken word passages of 'Unmanageable' show she can be as sensual as she is violent. The music softly progresses with a misery drenched guitar chord and draws you in before the heavy riffs breeze in with crushing broody gravity as a Plasmatics cover of 'Sex Junkie' retains the spirit of the sadly departed Wendy O Williams. The EP comes with a 13 minute film noir insight
of My Ruin and one directed by Tairrie herself. This transports My Ruin into the twenties with a look to it that brings to mind James Whale (who directed Bride of Frankenstein). A fascinating look at the band on stage and taking the time to answer all the questions you would ever need to ask. The album 'The Horror Of Beauty' will follow this October, but in the meantime, 'The Shape Of Things To Come' is the metal EP / single of the year."
