My Ruin recorded our cover of "My War" by Black Flag for our album "A Prayer Under Pressure Of Violent Anguish" in 2000. It was also featured on the CD single release of "Beauty Fiend" the same year.
When Mick & I first met, he played me demo recordings of his previous band "Movement" and he had done a basterdized, shortened version of "My War" that I thought was really cool. He was singing on it as well so I asked him if he would re-record it as a duet with me as one of the first songs we did together in My Ruin. I revamped the end and fell in love with our album version.
Listening to it again in 2020 brings back so many great memories of our early days. We've performed it live on tour many times over the years but rather than Mick singing it with me, I would usually get vocalists from other bands. One of my favorite times was when My Ruin toured the U.S. with Kittie in 2001 and my sister in metal Morgan Lander would join me on stage every night. Here's that version filmed at Irving Plaza in NYC:
